Abstract

MgO-TiO2 microcubes were synthesized by a facile template-free hydrothermal method followed by calcination. Different analytical tools such as XRD, DTA/TG, FTIR, N-2 adsorption-desorption study, FESEM, TEM and UV-DRS were used to characterize the sample. The FESEM images exhibited cube shaped particles of size 2-4 mu m. The MgO-TiO2 microcubes exhibit a high potential removal of toxic Pb (II) ions and photocatalytic degradation of organic dye methyl orange from water. The absorption capacity was determined by changing different experimental conditions. The spontaneity of the reaction was confirmed by thermodynamic study. The prepared MgOTiO2 microcubes showed superior adsorption capacity up to 2900 mg g(-1). for Pb (II) ions, and about 95% of photodegradation of methyl orange (MO), the water pollutants.
