Abstract

Felspar is the second most important raw material for the pottery industry. It is also being used in the glass industry on an increasing scale. In spite of the increasing use of nepheline syenite, the use, of felspar in glass industry in America increased to three times of what it was in the year 1935, in a period of ten years. It is necessary to find out the total quantity of first grade felspar available in India and chalk out a programme for its consumption in ceramic industry with due regard to the future requirements. America has exhausted all her stock of good quality felspar in spite of the use of large quantities of nepheline syenite. Lest toe should also have to face the same difficulty, lei us as a first step, stop the wattage of felspar mineral wherever it is occurring. In the mica belt of Bihar, during mica mining, huge amount of felspar is being thrown away daily as mines refuse. This felspar is mostly first grade, high potash and low iron bearing mineral and as such is very suitable for ceramic purposes. Recovery of this felspar by froth flotation process has been suggested in the interest of ceramic concerns as well as the owners of mica mines. Analysis figures for several felspar samples from mica mining areas are given
