Abstract

Alkali free Ba-Al metaphosphate glasses doped with Ce, Tb and Mn are prepared and their concentration is tuned to achieve white light emission for production of LEDs and luminescent concentrator for Si-PV applications. The occurrence of a redox reaction among dopant ions (Ce4+, Tb3+ -> Ce3+, Tb4+) is observed from the absorption spectra while there is no change in oxidation state of Mn2+ ions. This is confirmed from ESR studies. Emission spectra indicated effective downshifting of radiation from near visible to green and red region of the spectrum. On tuning the concentration of Tb3+ and Mn2+, bright white light emission (CIE coordinates: x=3.32, y=3.33) corresponding to CCT of 5900 K is obtained. This white light produced has been further tuned to different hues by varying the excitation wavelength of this triply doped glass. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
