Abstract
Divalent nickel and cobalt (11 to 40 mol% of equivalent oxide) were introduced in sol-gel derived silica gel monoliths. Wavelength-selective transmission windows were observed in the spectra in each case. The origin and characteristics (maximum transmission, bandwidth as a function of transition metal content) of the transmission windows are discussed.
