Abstract

An analytical method is disclosed which involves the decomposition of the glass matrix with hydrofluoric and nitric acids, formation of secondary copper (II) dithizonate in 0.30 M hydrochloric acid and 3 x 10(-5) M dithizone, extraction of copper dithizonate over 1 h at 50-degrees-60-degrees-C on polyether based polyurethane foam, elution of copper dithizonate in acetone, and finally measurement of absorbance at 550 nm. The method obeys Beer's law for copper contents between from 0.05-2.5 mug/ml. Satisfactory results were obtained when the method was applied to different glasses.
