Abstract

Biomaterials comprise metals, polymers, ceramics and also composites. These play an important role in biomedical application like implantation in human body. Among them, ceramic materials are used due to their appreciable mechanical strength. But biocompatibility of ceramics in terms of tissue response has not been done systematically till now. An attempt has been made to study the effects of these ceramic materials on tissue response. Studies indicated that these materials are nontoxic to splenic lymphocytes (WBC). Phagocytic activity of macrophage (WBC) isolated from different tissues remain unaltered in presence of these ceramic materials.
