Abstract

The influence of progressive incoproation of wollastonite in a common clay mixture has been studied. The addition led to early vitrification with significant improvement in the thermo-mechanical properties. The study revealed that fired strength was increased from 522 kg/cm(2) to 706 kg/cm(2) with 10 per cent addition of wollastonite while the fired shrinkage decreased from 10.9 per cent to 10.16 per cent at 1125 degrees C. Decrease in thermal expansion values was observed with progressive incorporation of wollastonite which is expected to improve the thermal shock resistance property of the product.
