Abstract
A diffuse phase transition has been observed in Ba1–xCuxTiO3 within a certain concentration range of copper. The maximum frequency dispersion has been found for the composition Ba0.9Cu0.1TiO3. For x below 0.1 (typically 0.05) and above 0.5, dielectric constant has been found to be very low and almost independent of frequency. On the other hand, the dielectric constant of Ba0.9Cu0.1TiO3 peaked to around 6500 (at 500 Hz); however, at the same time, it showed a high dissipation factor. A mechanism has been proposed to explain the relaxor like behaviour of Ba1–xCuxTiO3 within a window of x.
