Abstract

Piezoelectric eco-friendly wafers have extensive applications in areas like automotive, military, medical and aerospace. High dense wafers based on barium titanate solid solution having composition 0.5(Ba0.7Ca0.3)TiO3-0.5Ba(Zr0.2Ti0.8)O-3 were fabricated by tape casting technique using phosphate ester as dispersant. The sintering conditions and poling parameters were optimized to achieve enhanced dielectric, ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties. Maximum relative permittivity and low loss (epsilon(r) = 4400 and tan delta < 0.06 at 1 kHz), polarization (P-max = 14 A mu C/cm(2), P-r = 7.8 A mu C/cm(2) at 20 kV/cm) was achieved with wafers having highest density (5.6 gm/cc) obtained by application of top load of 0.9 gm/cm(2) and sintered at 1500 A degrees C for 2 h. Further the wafers were poled at the optimized poling conditions i.e. at 40 A degrees C temperature for duration of 30 min and application of field of 3E(c) to obtain maximum piezoelectric coefficient (d(33) = 209 pc/N). The fatigue behavior was investigated by application of bipolar electric field upto 10(4) cycles at 1 Hz. The wafers exhibited almost fatigue free behavior which confirms the possibility of application of these materials in ferroelectric based devices.
