Abstract
High density grinding medium was made from alumina and zircon fired to a temperature of 1400°C. Titania was found to be an essential ingredient for maturity of alumina bodies. Plastic pressing, dry pressing, isostatic pressing and deairing extrusion were tried and the lowest shrinkage was obtained with isostatic pressing. Deairing extrusion increassed the strength considerably. Density of zircon bodies was quite high but their strength was comparatively low. © 1965, Taylor and Francis Group, LLC
