Abstract

The casting properties of two clays from Jabbalpur area were studied for a clear understanding of the phenomenon as also to identify the ingredients which affect this property. Besides chemical and differential thermal analysis the properties studied included the rate of cast, the nature of drain, firmness of the cast, retained water, the flow time and the thixotropy of the slips prepared from the clays. The good casting quality of one of them could be ascribed to the presence of organic matter along with soluble calcium sulphate. The second clay showing poor casting properties could be considerably improved by small additions of carboxymethyl cellulose and calcium sulfate. © 1965, Taylor and Francis Group, LLC
