Abstract

A simple flame photometric method for the determination of calcium in bauxite samples has been developed. Aluminium and titanium which interfere by reducing the Harne intensity of calcium due to the formation of aluminium or titanium spinel with calcium have been sequestered by the addition of magnesium which releases the calcium from the spinel. The method does not involve prior separation of aluminium or titanium and thus is advantageous over the lengthy and time-consuming conventional classical methods. The results of analysis of a number of bauxite samples agree favourably with the certified values. The method employs only a simple filter type flame photometer which most of the laboratories of our country can provide. © 1984 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
