Abstract
A modification of the Weibull type of flaw distribution function has been suggested for analysing the strength distribution of carbon fibres. The function provides an upper and lower strength limit and is eharacterised by two shape parameters. The strength distributions of Type I and Type II carbon fibres, reported by previous workers, were analysed in terms of the proposed distribution. Strength distribution data obtained at greater lengths (50 mm ) were used to predict strengths at the shorter lengths of 5 mm and 0.5 mm. The predicted values were in close agreement with the experimental ones.
