Abstract
A modification to the Weibull flaw distribution function has been suggested to analyse the failure probability of glass. The function gives an upper and lower strength limit and is characterized by two shape parameters. The applicability of the function has been studied using borosilicate glass specimens tested in three-point bending. Failure predictions during dynamic loading made from this function, by the use of fracture mechanics theory, are in close agreement with the experimental results.
