Abstract
A comparative study on the influence of different precursor salts of Er and Al for fabrication of rare-earth-doped optical fibers by modified chemical vapor deposition-solution doping is presented. Experimental results reveal that among the different precursor salts under investigation halide precursors exhibit the highest incorporation efficiency. A plausible explanation of the observed result is proposed. The results of a model conductivity experiment support our proposition.
