Abstract
Transparent silica gel monoliths were prepared from a high-acid sol of composition TEOS : H2O: HCl = 1:10:0.4 with no alcohol used. Wet gels were washed with water to remove the trapped HCl and dried in air at 60°C. The gels showed 92–95% light transmission in the visible range with a refractive index at 632.8 nm in the range 1.428-1.438.
