Abstract
The alkali extraction process with the aim of leaching out free SiO2 present in 980-degrees-C-heated kaolinite has been re-examined by corroborating with X-ray diffraction analysis of the leached and heat-treated leached residues of Georgia kaolinite. The validity of the composition of the intermediate Si-Al spinel phase analogous to the composition of 3:2 mullite has been con-firmed.
