Abstract
The diffusion-convection equation of mathematical physics has been used under simplified conditions to develop a model that simulates moisture flow within a cast sample of finite length which undergoes shrinkage under convective influence of the suction mold. The model reveals that under transient conditions, the moisture concentration within the cast oscillates with the increase in the convective velocity and once transient conditions subside, the rate of moisture removal tends to retard due to compaction as the convective velocity is increased.
