Abstract
Attempts have been made to beneficiate phosphogypsum, an industrial by-product waste by various methods, viz. (i) washing with water only, (ii) washing with water in presence of chemicals and (iii) washing with chemical under steam pressure. Washing with chemical under steam pressure yielded best result in the context of removal of impurities. The CaSO4, 2H2O content could be increased from 89.0% (as such phosphogypsum) to 98.5% (beneficiated phosphogypsum). Plaster of Paris prepared from the beneficiated gypsum and that from selenite gypsum are of comparable properties.
