Abstract

This thesis addresses observations and interpretation of nanoindentation behaviour in human bone (cortical part) at a load of 100 mN. The results of these attempts are elaborated in detail herein. The final results show interesting characteristics about the material’s response to nanoindentation. The optical and SEM micrographs were taken for both cross-section and plan section of the sample. The cross-sectional sample had better properties viz. Nanohardness, Young’s modulus than those of the Plan-sectional sample. The nanohardness of the cross and plan -sectional sample was found to be ~0.57 GPa and ~0.55 GPa, respectively. Similarly, the Young’s modulus of the cross and plan -sectional sample was found to be ~15.36 GPa and ~12.93 GPa, respectively. The results show the directional anisotropy in mechanical properties.
