Abstract

Phase composition and densification behaviour of stoichiometric and two nonstoichiometric magnesium aluminate spinels have been investigated in presence of different additives in a single sintering process in the temperature regime of 1550 degrees C to 1650 degrees C. Additives show nearly no influence on the phase constituents of different spinels but they affect the densification behaviour. Dy2O3, Cr2O3, TiO2, etc, are found to increase the sintered density but V2O5 shows strong inhibition of sintering for all the compositions
