Process of producing nano sized calcium hydroxyapatite powder and its composite with phosphorus-tricalcium phosphate (3-TCP) and other calcium phosphates through modified solution combustion synthesis using pure or mixed fuels is disclosed. The phase pure nano sized calcium hydroxy apatite and the composites comprised of a mixture of calcium hydroxyapatite, tri-calcium phosphate and other phosphates. Also disclosed is resultant product obtained by modified solution combustion synthesis is fluffy foam like mass composed of isometric spherical particles of 20-150 nm size. The nano sized calcium hydroxy apatite powder and its composite material can also be processed to yield a porous bioactive scaffold and bone filler materials.
