Abstract

The visible fluorescence of Pr3+ on excitation in the H-3(4) —> P-3(1)(P-3(0)) transition band in calcium metaphosphate glass at room temp in the concentration of Pr3+ ranging from 3.4 x 10(19) ions cm(-3) to 18.5 x 10(20) ions cm(-3) has been measured using the methods of spectroscopy. Analysis of the results shows that an up-conversion process has taken place leading to enhanced emission from P-3(1)(P-3(0)) to the H-3(6) state populating D-1(2) state. The D-1(2) state thus populated leads via upconversion to P-3(1)(P-3(0)). (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
